    What made you think that they had ever gone away? The only difference now is that the buttons themselves are not always mother-of pearl. Other than that, the culture is alive and well, although you would be hard-pressed to see anyone market trading in their costumes these days. Also, not every person you see in costume is a king or queen. ‘cos there can only be one k/q per ward, per year.
